WEIRD, BIZARRE and UNUSUAL (.1133)

DUH?.. UH.. DUH!
Jan. 2, 2015, the Houston Chronicle reports drivers of two cars forced to stop behind lowered safety arms at a railroad crossing, got out and raised those road-blockers. Then, while driving across the tracks, both cars were hit by a freight train, injuring the drivers and five children. NOT COUNTING THOSE CRIPPLED
While many feel the reason people ride motorcycles on high speed roadways is they don’t realize the real danger or suffer from a subconscious desire to commit suicide, the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration has some good news. In 2013, only 4,668 motorcyclists were killed, down from 4,986 in 2012. (The Los Angeles Times, 1-3-15)
SHE COULD PLAY CARDS, INSTEAD
From The Huffington Post (12-22-14): Caroline Cartwright, of Sunderland, England, defied a court order requiring her to stop screaming during sex with her husband after police responded to approximately 30 noise complaints at their home. “It’s not as if I’m having sex and think ‘Oh, I’m making too much noise. I better be quiet,’" she said.

REMODELED THEIR CASH FLOW
The Washington Observer-Reporter stated (http://bit.ly/1Hh42J6/Dec, 31, 2014) four home remodelers would not face criminal charges for spending $60,000 they found hidden inside a western Pennsylvania home.  The men worked for a contractor who’d bought the home from a dead man's estate. Hidden in a second-floor dormer, the newest bills found dated back to the 1980s.
COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET, NOT
John Arwood and Amber Campbell were obviously on drugs when they broke into Daytona State College's Marine and Environmental Science Center. After walking inside a janitor’s closet, the couple became convinced the door would not reopen, and the following day called 911. Strangely, when police arrived they found nothing wrong with the door and arrested the couple. Both feces and drug paraphernalia was found. (The Orlando Sentinel 12-29-14)
MAILED HIS LIMBS?
Former Canadian porn actor and escort, Luka Rocco Magnotta, killed and dismembered Jun Lin, a Chinese international student, then mailed his limbs to elementary schools and Canadian political party offices. After a video of the murder was published on the Internet, fleeing Canada, he became part of an international manhunt. In June 2012, he was apprehended in Berlin and returned to Canada. On December 23, 2014, Magnotta was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life with no chance of parole for 25 years. NO WAY TO CELEBRATE NEW YEAR’S
During a New Year’s countdown last year, near Chen Yi Square in Shanghai, the celebration turned into a riot, leaving 35 trampled to death and 43 injured. (From wire reports, 1115)
BILLION$ UPON BILLION$
Among the richest people in the world, two who did extremely well in 2014 were Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, added $13.7 billion to his wealth, while Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, remained the richest person in the world by increasing his income $9.1 billion, totaling assets at $87.6 billion. (The AP, 12-31-14)
ILLEGAL EXTRA INCOME
The Shreveport Times reported in December 2014, city officials were having a hard time figuring out why water meters and other property just disappeared. Finally the missing inventory was found at a Marshall, TX, scrap metal plant, hauled there and sold for $60,000 by Cartrie Washington Jr., a six-year employee of Shreveport’s Department of Water and Sewerage.

UNLIKE IN THE USA
In December 2014, shoppers and pedestrians near a store in Hechi, China, were shocked when a septic tanker blew up, covering them from head-to-toe in chemicals and human waste. But, since both the store and sewage pick-up service denied responsibility, no compensation for sufferers was likely. A BELATED WISH COME TRUE
An airline advertising staff convinced their management, in November 2014, to use a new slogan: "Want to go somewhere, but don't know where?" Sad thing is, this airline is Malaysia Airlines, whose Flight 370 still has not been found. CHINA REINVENTING THE OLD USA
The world’s 400 richest in 2014 were worth a total $4.1 trillion (13 figures!). The biggest gainer was Jack Ma, age 50, a school teacher who co-found Alibaba Group, China’s largest e-commerce company, started in Ma’s apartment in 1999. In 2014, he received $25.1 billion. That’s because a public offering in September increased the company’s value by 56%. (The AP, 12-31-14)

CREATIVE WAY AROUND A TAX
Bloomberg Business Week (12-1-14) reported Spain’s large tax increase on entertainment such as sports, movies and live theater, caused an all-women theatre group in Madrid to find a way around it, selling old issues of pornographic magazines for 16-Euro ($20-USD) -- with a "free" ticket to its latest stage production inside. Doing so saved “ticket buyers” 19% on sales tax. (http://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/womens-theatre-sells-porn-to-bypass-spanish-tax-hike/ar-BBgn3gw)
NO “MIDDLE-MAN” REQUIRED
An Amarillo gynecologist, Dr. Douglas Shelton, according to the Texas Medical Board, offered a more “personal” treatment for a patient wishing to conceive a baby. According to them, rather than artificial insemination, Shelton offered the natural way to conceive by simply having sex with him. Good point: He didn’t bill her for infertility treatment, co-pays or deductibles. (http://amarillo.com/news/local-news/2014-12-27/medical-board-holds-closing-arguments-shelton-hearing)
ONE LADY CLAIMED “SQUIGGLY”
In late 2014 a trend was found on dating websites, where many looking for love described their sexuality other than male, female, gay or heterosexual. A survey by OkCupid.com found terms such as  "asexual," "androgynous," "genderqueer" (evidently not the same as "gay"), "queer" (not quite gay either), "questioning," "trans man," "transsexual," "transmasculine," "heteroflexible" and "sapiosexual" - turned on by "intelligence".
