WEIRD, BIZARRE and UNUSUAL (.1015)

BUT WAS HE LOOKING FOR A JOB?
German industrial giant Siemens recently had an unusual occurrence in the lobby of their Dresden office building. A wild moose walked in through the front door. Unable to convince the large animal to go outside, or enter a cage, after six hours it was tranquilized and returned to the wild. Apparently, the moose was “visiting” from neighboring Poland. (The AP, 8-26-14)
THEY RAINED HELL ON EACH OTHER
A rain shower falling on the Springdale Golf Course near Uniontown, Pennsylvania, caused Roger Harris, 63, and Bryan Bandes, 42, to first disagree, then get into a brutal fight. Harris hit Bandes in the head with his 3-wood, while Bandes punched-out Harris with his fist, leaving him with a swollen jaw, a fat lip and a scratched eye. Why? They argued the rule for playing a ball in a rain puddle.  (KDKA-TV/Pittsburgh, 8-7-14)
DO HUMANS KNOW GOD YET!
New Delhi - Throughout history religious rituals have caused many, many thousands of unnecessary deaths. More recently, some 50,000 devotees, marking the holy day of Somvati Amavasya, walked or laid down to roll around a spot where the Hindu god Ram may have spent time; one woman, accidently shocked by an electrical wire, screamed, causing a stampede which killed 10 “believers”. NO REST FOR HETEROSEXUALS
In April 2014, Berlin's Lutheran Georgen Parochial cemetery inaugurated a 4,300-square-foot area of its grounds reserved exclusively for lesbian women who, "want to be buried among other lesbians." (Associated Press, 4-1-14)
AN ODD DRAIN CLOGGER
Albuquerque, N.M. -  KRQE-TV tells of a poodle named Morita, being bathed in a bathroom tub, when its little paw got stuck in the drain. The animal’s owner, 12-year-old Selena Ortega, said her family called a veterinarian, then a plumber, then 911. But when neither lotion or shampoo released the pooch’s paw, the drain was sawed-out and both taken to a vet; where they were finally parted. (The AP, 8-24-14)
WHAT’S IN A NAME? JAIL
Ashley (Nicole) Chiasson had broken no law, but Clay County (Fl.) Sheriff’s officers arrested her in January 2014 for grand theft, then in May for writing bad checks. She stayed in jail for five weeks, while the real suspect, Ashley (Odessa) Chiasson (20 pounds different in weight, five inches different in height and 3 years different in age), remained free. EDUCATIONAL EARLY START
Thanks to cameras installed on streets near schools in Nassau County (N.Y.), in one month over 30,000 speeding citations were issued, totaling over $2.4 million in fines. Of course, amnesty on all those fines was declared after it was realized cameras were activated long before those schools opened. COULDN’T THEY SMELL HIM BY NOW
New York City police have busted into the family home of James Jordan Sr., 12 times since 2006, seeking him on several charges (four times in 2014 alone), even though, after his death in 2006, his widow, Karen Johnson, taped his death certificate to their front door. Recently, while officers cleaned out drawers, and looked in closets, one shouted “We know you are here!”  (New York Post, 5-6-14)
UNINTENDED INSURANCE COVERAGE
An airborne banner towed by an airplane came loose in Fremont, California, July 2014, floated down and landed on a house… frightening its residents. The sign advertised GEICO insurance. (KNTV/San Francisco, 7-23-14)

TEXT? LIVE? YOU DECIDE
Fifty percent of high school students of driving age acknowledge texting while driving. Researchers at Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park estimate there are more than 3,000 annual teen deaths nationwide from texting and 300,000 injuries. Surveys by the agency suggest more than 100,000 drivers are texting at any given daylight moment, while more than 600,000 drivers use handheld phones while operating a car.  (http://www.newsday.com/news/nation/study-texting-while-driving-now-leading-cause-of-death-for-teen-drivers-1.5226036)
HE FILES AWAY HIS NAILS
Richard Gibson, 58, keeps his most prized possessions in a jar high on a shelf in his home, in Lafayette, Louisiana. Which is every single toenail and fingernail he's clipped off himself since February, 1978. Ripley's Believe It Or Not!  latest publication, Reality Shock (released Sept. 9, 2014) show Gibson and his jar.
A STOLEN PRESIDENT
A Pennsylvania woman, Tiffany Bruce, had a panic attack and was placed in a hospital, after discovering President Barack Obama had been stolen off her front porch. Well, not the actual U.S. leader, but a statue of him she’d purchased at a furniture store some time ago. Now found and returned, she can go back to dressing him up as Santa on Christmas, and arrange pumpkins around him on Thanksgiving. Nigerian Christian preacher Temitope Joshua, praying to do his best to help, sent the Sierra Leone government 4,000 bottles of his “patented” holy anointed water and $50,000 in cash in a private jet (which also cost $50,000 to charter)... claiming his holy water can cure the Ebola virus. IRONIC IRONY
A 10-foot-tall pine tree in Los Angeles's Griffith Park was dedicated in 2004, with a plaque to musician George Harrison. Oddly, it had to be replaced after an infestation of bugs (beetles) destroyed it. (CBS News, 7-22-14)
