WEIRD, BIZARRE and UNUSUAL (.1055)

A BI-LINGUAL BIRD
The Daily Breeze reported October 12, 2014, when Nigel the pet parrot disappeared in 2010, it had a British accent. Found 4 years later, and identified by a microchip, Nigel now speaks Spanish. DIFFERENT STROKES FOR...
The Slate’s advice columnist Emily Yoffe (aka Dear Prudence), received a letter from a single mother worried about her 14-year-old son, saying “I have seen evidence in his bedroom, the laundry room, and the kitchen.” Adding he was so “obsessed” even when playing hockey he would deliberately take penalties so he could be alone in the penalty box... to “please himself.” (prudence@slate.com.)
WELL, SO MUCH FOR THAT
Newly established branch "Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent" - a project of Osama bin Laden's successor, Ayman al-Zawahiri - failed its first mission, according to the Daily Telegraph/London (9-12-14). Trying to commandeer what they thought was an “American" aircraft carrier in the Karachi dockyard, they stormed a Pakistani naval frigate instead (not even vaguely resembling an aircraft carrier), and Pakistani forces killed or captured all 10 jihadists.
