WEIRD, BIZARRE and UNUSUAL (.1047)

HOPE IT TOOK MANY HOURS

After the April 29, 2014, execution of Clayton Lockett at Oklahoma State Penitentiary took 43 minutes, some fear the planned execution of Charles Frederick Warner, on November 13, might cause him to suffer cruel and unusual punishment, too. What did Warner do to be sentenced to death? He raped and murdered 11-month-old Adrianna Walker. (The AP, 10-5-14)
IT’S ABOUT TIME
In October 2014, refills for popular painkillers containing hydrocodone were made more difficult to acquire. Why? According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration 7 million Americans abuse prescription drugs and during the last decade 100,000 have died from overdose. Hydrocodone combinations (including Vicodin, Lortab and Norco) account for more prescriptions than any other drug, with more than 130 million filled each year. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 10-06-14)
HE SEEMED A BIT BACKWARD
Sebastopol, Calif. -  Dylan Stables, 20, was on probation when arrested July 22, 2014, for possession of stolen credit cards. He was caught because his car’s broken transmission forced him to drive through town in reverse. (Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, 7-23-14)
